Great honor for Hans Barth (71): The Opel Supervisory Board member, who is leaving the board as he has reached retirement age, was yesterday awarded the title Chairman Emeritus by Supervisory Board Chairman Steve Girsky. “This honorary title, awarded for the first time, is meant to express our appreciation of Hans Barth. He stands for a unique career in our company,” says Girsky. Hans Barth will remain an ambassador of the company, as the honorary title includes receiving invitations to all public events of the company.

Hans Barth, born in Mainz and living in Rüsselsheim, has remained loyal to the company for 55 years. In 1958 he joined the company as an apprentice and made his way to the very top of the company. One of his key activities was the leadership role in the European expansion program of the Opel brand. Finally he held the position of Vice President Project and Production Support and was a member of the European Strategy Board of General Motors Europe. Hans Barth has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Adam Opel AG since 1997 and served as Chairman of the Board from October 1998 through July 2005.
